Spotlight on Winning Young Writers

We’re so pleased by the wonderful response we received from more than 300 girls and teens who wrote essays for the Driven Like Danica contest. We’re proud to announce the winners as judged by folks from the nonprofit youth writing organization Second Story. And we’re also happy to feature the winning writing here at

6th grade: Shauna Synesael
7th grade: Grace Gore
8th grade: Olivia Rusk
9th grade: Mikaela George
10th grade: Alyssa Duncan
11th grade: Jessica Bun
12th grade: Daeja Nelson

Grand prize: Annie Alesia (12th grade)

The winners received a $500 scholarship to use for education, and the Grand Prize winner received a prize package to attend a taping of American Idol, in addition to the scholarship.
