  2. I just had a cholestoral blood reading a a health fair-this was a non fasting blood tet
the reading total cholestoral was 144—is that low for a 60 year old female

  3. Hi. Thank you for posting a concern. Cholesterol is best check when you are fasting. It is great that you went to the health fair…..most of the time a number of 144 is not a problem. We worry far more about higher numbers. There is a podcast with Dr. Mike Ball ( on 3384HER)that talks about cholesterol and the ” right numbers”. It is important to know all your numbers which are: Total Cholestesrterol, LDL (bad cholesterol), HDL (good cholesterol) and the ratio between your total and your HDL. All of those numbers give us an idea of your risk. We also want to know about your family history , smoking, high blood pressure etc So, having blood drawn fasting is the best (even a fasting finger stick is better than not fasting). Let us know if we can be of any further help.

  4. How can you.lose around 75 lbs., when you have a few medical problems like blood preasure, blood clots, poor circulation in the legs and feet and all the artherits brothers, spinial bifia and scoliocs of the spine. Every diet cost so.much and on social disablity and only get $1,000 a month. The only thing that you can get at food pantry gives out only starch foods. I’m 71 yrs. old and can’t get around very well. Can you help me? Marsha

  5. Hi Marsha,

Thank you for contacting us. I am wondering with all of you medical issues if we would get you into the primary care clinic for a full evaluation. The clinic works on a sliding scale and has many different areas of medicine represented there. I think it is important for you to be evaluated very well before we set you out to exercise and lose weight. I would like for you to call my nurse Kelly at 415-9308. We can help get you an appointment at the clinic. I hope this helps.
