What has several thousand legs and fights heart disease? The American Heart Association 2011 Heart Walk and 5K Timed Run — a good way to help raise funds for research and a fine reason to bust out the running shoes.
All funds raised will go toward research and education of cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease, including stroke, is the leading cause of death in Indiana. The American Heart Association works every day to help build healthier lives through research and by working in our community through many initiatives such as Go Red For Women, Power to End Stroke and Alliance for a Healthier Generation — to name just a few.
The Heart Walk and 5K Timed Run will take place on Saturday, September 17 at Celebration Plaza, White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis. The event begins with registration at 8 a.m.; opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m.; 5K timed run at 9:45 a.m.; and the walk itself at 10 a.m. The 5K timed run is new this year. The walk consists of a beautiful scenic 3-mile route, or a family-friendly 1-mile route.
St.Vincent Health has set a team goal of raising $100,000 and to have the biggest walker/runner participation yet, and we need your help in achieving that goal.
