Celebrating Our New Rooms

Nine years and more than 10,000 babies — we were due for a change. But first we asked a few questions of moms who had delivered at St.Vincent Carmel to find out how we could make the rooms more comfortable for them.

“We reached out because we wanted to learn what to accentuate,” said Michelle Slayman, Clinical Director of OB Services at St.Vincent Carmel Hospital. “They asked for a comfortable, hotel-like room for them and their families. They also asked for nice bathrooms with great showers.”

All those conversations — and all the planning, design, building, noise, installation and so on — led to a result we’re quite proud of. The room renovation that what we started early in 2010 now is complete.

More luxurious, bigger, brighter, and much more comfortable, our new rooms offer a lot of great touches:

  • Rain showers
  • Etched glass doors
  • Fine linens
  • More space for partners to stretch out in
  • Contemporary furniture and elegant color scheme
  • Infant alcoves so that parents, nurses and physicians can care for babies right in the room

The maternity waiting area also got a bright new look, and the renovation extends to the exam, labor and newborn intensive care areas.

“We’re excited about the expansion,” Slayman said. “Our patients know they get exceptional care. Making it more luxurious is icing on the cake.”
