Identify heavy menstrual bleeding and what to do about it

Just how much you bleed during your period isn’t something women talk about much. So how would you know, really, what’s considered normal when it comes to the heaviness of your period? Would you be surprised if your doctor told you that needing to change your pad or tampon every hour is excessively heavy bleeding? And did you know that heavy bleeding isn’t something you have to suffer through?

Frequent periods (less than 21 days apart from day one to day one of the next cycle) or heavy periods should be discussed with your doctor. Finding the cause of the bleeding is the first step to fixing the problem.

Julie’s here to help with information about what’s considered to be a normal period, what’s not a normal period, and how endometrial ablation might be one answer to heavy menstrual bleeding.
